Preheat the oven to 220 degrees (fan oven 200 degrees, gas mark 3-4). Halve the garlic clove, rub it into the gratin dish and grease with 20 g of butter. Peel the potatoes, rinse and cut into thin slices.

Grate cheese. Place potatoes in two layers in the form of scales. Sprinkle each layer with pepper, nutmeg, cheese and salt. Stir milk, whipped cream and eggs and pour over potatoes.
